Stage 1 -the tumor is about 2 cm or smaller

Stage 2 – the tumor is larger than 2cm but not more than 4 cm

Stage 3- the tumor is larger than 4cm, or cancer is spread to one lymph node in the neck, and the lymph node is 3 cm or smaller

Stage 4 A- the tumor is any size and grown into:

  •       Lower jaw or bone in the palate
  •       Lower jaw nerve
  •       The floor of the mouth
  •       Skin of face

Stage 4 B – the tumor is grown into soft tissues of cheek like in muscles, nerves or blood vessels

Stage 4 C – it is also called distinct cancer and has spread to other parts of the body

Recurrent oral cancer – it is when cancer has come back at the same place after it has been treated
